What To Expect
Day One
Combine Testing
Day One, you will experience the official AFL/AFLW combine and test you athletic ability – providing you with a greater understanding of your physical state, and how you can improve your performance on the field.
Participants will run through the following tests:
-
AFL Agility
The AFL Agility test is an assessment of a player's ability to change direction at high speeds. Agility is a powerful weapon when players are in tight situations or dodging an opponent.
-
20m Sprint
The 20m Sprint is an assessment of a player's ability to accelerate and reach top speed over a distance of 20m. Measuring the 5m, 10m and 20m splits, we gather insights on how well a player can explode and burst out of a pack.
-
Running Vertical jump
The Running Vertical jump is an assessment of a player's ability to gain momentum and jump off one foot and reach the highest point. By measuring the running jumps, this test provides insight into how much impact a player can have in aerial contests.
-
Standing Vertical Jump
The Standing Vertical Jump is assessing each player's ability to jump straight up from a standing position to the highest point (counter movement jumps). Generating power from a stationary position can indicate a player's lower body strength, highly suitable for AFL/AFLW football.
-
YO-YO Endurance Test
The Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test is an assessment of each player’s ability to recover from repeated bouts of running. A player’s ability to recover is important in football as you are able to perform consistency across the game.
Day Two
Football Development
Day Two is a football training program, created from the AFL Coaching Curriculum and follows the progressive structure of Pre Game, Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 where the session will evolve from skill development to game play.
You will complete eight (8) focused Masterclasses taught by experienced coaches, some of who have played at the highest levels of the game, and you'll have the opportunity to put your skills to the test.
-
Pre Game: Play and Create
Providing an environment for players to explore different types of skills and games, use this time to prepare for training, and create your own fun. Unstructured play is important for skill acquisition, particularly with regards to developing creativity in a player's game.
-
Q1: Fundamental Skills
Improving the skills of AFL football is an important part of every player's development. The aim of Q1 is to expose players to fun and enjoyable ways to practice the fundamental skills of football with a high level of repetition.
-
Q2: Decision Making and Problem Solving
Decisions in the game of football are everywhere, following the theme of the camp, activities are designed to challenge and help players progress their ability to work through problems.
-
Q3: Game Sense
Small-sided games that challenge the players to work through a range of game situations so they can see them more clearly in the heat of battle.
-
Q4: Game Play
Bringing the whole program together, giving the opportunity to players to simply play the game. Altering rules to emphasise specific skills or strategies that may be a part of the theme of the camp.
